Bio
Chieko Garling - Multi-instrumentalist/Composer Born in Japan, she moved to the Chicago area to study jazz composition at Roosevelt University. While in college, she started to perform professionally at many venues as a jazz pianist. After receiving a degree, she continued studying with classical pianists, mainly Dr. Michael Yanovitsky and Dr. Janis Razaq. Her versatile repertoire includes jazz standards and pop songs and many compositions by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin. In 2014, she opened the Tritone Music School in her hometown, Arlington Heights, hoping to spread her unique teaching method to a broad range of students. Her pedagogical approach is based on her experience studying jazz improvisation and classical music. It teaches how to capture a piece in a way that improvisers do and apply it to other genres such as classical and pop. She has been developing a series of piano educational books and compositions with help from the teachers at her school. She currently serves as an accompanist for Allegro Community Chorus, Chicago Children's Choir, Trinity Lutheran Church, and Songs By Heart Foundation. Please visit Tritone Music School's website to learn more about her school and method.
